The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has approved Aamir Khan’s new film Sitaare Zameen Par, which serves as a spiritual successor to the acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, without requiring any edits. This upcoming movie, which delves into themes of inclusion, empathy, and resilience through the experiences of specially-abled children, is scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, June 20. Featuring a cast of nine neurodivergent children in prominent roles, Sitaare Zameen Par is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and includes Genelia Deshmukh in a significant role. There were earlier suggestions from the CBFC for two cuts to be made, which Aamir Khan found unacceptable. A meeting with Censor Board officials had been anticipated on Monday.

As per insider information, the issue was settled during this meeting, leading to the film receiving its final approval from the CBFC. The storyline of Sitaare Zameen Par centers on a disillusioned basketball coach, portrayed by Aamir Khan, who undertakes community service by coaching neurodivergent individuals after facing a DUI charge. Throughout this journey, he gains new insights, and his perspective on life evolves as he works with these athletes. The film also introduces ten upcoming talents: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.

Directed by RS Prasanna, who is renowned for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Sitaare Zameen Par features lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and music from the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The screenplay is crafted by Divy Nidhi Sharma. The film is a joint production effort of Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, with B Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka serving as co-producers. Notably, this film marks the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s 90-year-old mother, Zeenat Hussain, while his elder sister and actress Nikhat Hegde will also appear in the project.
