At least eight individuals lost their lives, which includes five non-combatants and three attackers, in a “terrorist act” aimed at a court building in southeastern Iran, as reported by state media. Unidentified gunmen invaded the areas where judges work at the judiciary center in Zahedan, the main city of the southeastern province of Sistan Baluchistan, according to the judiciary’s Mizan Online. Official sources indicate that the incident resulted in five fatalities and left 13 others wounded. A different report from the state-backed IRNA news agency verified that three of the attackers also died during this event. Reports suggest that gunmen associated with the Sunni extremist group Jaish al-Adl were responsible for the assault on the courthouse in Zahedan. The semi-official Fars news agency mentioned that the attack might have included a suicide bomber, with gunfire and blasts being reported close to the courthouse.
Jaish al-Adl is said to have taken responsibility for the assault through a statement. The Mehr news agency reported that several individuals who were hurt in the event were transported to the hospital for care. Referring to eyewitness accounts, the Baluch rights organization HAALVSH indicated that numerous judiciary officials and security staff were either killed or injured when the attackers breached the judges’ chambers.
