Florida Ranks First In Road Rage Incidents Involving Guns

Number of road rage incidents involving the guns are on rise. According to the new report released by The Trace, a nonprofit gun control advocacy website, there were at least 620 gun-involved road rage incidents in the year 2016, which is more than double from the two years earlier.

With 146 incidents, Florida had the most in the country over a period of  two years.

The road rage is often nasty or violent. But when the drivers bring guns into the mix, the road rage can be deadly. A former NFL player Will Smith was gunned down a year ago during a road rage incident in the New Orleans, in which the surveillance footage appears to show one car rear-end the other.

Smith is just one of the examples of  more than 1,300 gun-related road rage incidents which happened nationwide between the January 2014 and December 2016. Among those incidents, 146 incidents were in Florida, which is the highest number in the country.

With the road rage incidents increasing overall, the states are passing laws to keep traffic moving. In Florida, the drivers can only go 10 miles per hour under the speed limit while the drivers are in the fast lane.

A 2016 AAA survey said that nearly 80 percent of the drivers admitted to at least one instance of the aggressive driving within a year.

“The more congestion that we experience, the more people have to stop-and-go or sit in traffic jams, the more frustrated they get,” said Kevin Bakewell, the senior vice president & chief public affairs officer at AAA.
