Florida voters have supported to approve a state constitutional amendment for legaling medical marijuana, which will eventually broaden access to pot beyond the limits of therapeutic uses that had been approved by the legislature two years ago.
Now, the law has allowed the non-smoked, low-THC pot for the patients with cancer or ailments that may cause chronic seizures or severe spasms. The ballot measure has broadened the access of diseases with symptoms other than spasms or seizures.
The measure had listed 10 illnesses: cancer, glaucoma, epilepsy, post-traumatic stress disorder, AIDS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, , Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis , Crohn's disease. It also allowed the doctors to prescribe pot for any other similar kind of disease.
A similar ballot measure had been failed narrowly in 2014, when the opponents expressed their concerns including children who wouldn't be adequately protected. Proponents said that loopholes had been closed this time, including parental consent for underage patients.
