The heart is one among the most important organ and the epicenter of our body. It is giving us life and pumping our blood. Do you know factoids about our heart? Most of us have only a little knowledge about this  fist-sized powerhouse. It pumps oxygenated and nutrient-rich blood, throughout our body.

Here are some factoids about the heart, that will increase your knowledge about this little organ of our body.

Infarction:
Infarction is a tissue death due to a local lack of oxygen. A heart attack occurs, when, the cells of your heart are dying. The partial death of the heart cells due to the blockage of a coronary artery is known as myocardial infarction.

Diuretics:
Diuretics are known as the water pills, which are used for heart failure and hypertension. These pills are helpful to promote the urine production and increase the excretion of water from bodies.

Body Mass Index (BMI):
BMI is a measure of your body fat. It measures in portion of your weight and your height. A BMI between 20-25 is considered good. If your BMI exceeds 27, it indicates that, you are overweight and over 30 BMI means the person is obese. Obesity increases the risk of heart diseases and high blood pressure and diabetes, as well.

Stroke:
A  stroke happens, when a blood vessel that feeds the brain, gets clogged and burst. It can damage your brain completely or lead to death.

Systolic blood pressure:
There are two levels of the blood pressure in our body. First one is systolic blood pressure and another diastolic blood pressure. Systolic is higher and diastolic is lower one in a blood pressure reading. The normal blood pressure is considered, when the readings,  reports less than 120-130 in Systolic and less than 80-90 in diastolic.

Beta blockers:
Beta blockers are the class of drugs that, prevent the stimulation of the adrenergic receptors. These drugs treat increased cardiac action, angina, reduce high blood pressure, control heart rhythm, heart rhythm and anxiety.

C-reactive protein (CRP):
CRP is a pentameric protein, which is present in blood plasma. The High level of this protein increases the risk of heart attack. Studies says that, the probability of heart attacks increases two times more with the persons, who  have the highest levels of the CRP are twice.

Alcohol:
Studies says that, a modest quantity of the alcohol is beneficial for  your heart, but excess quantity of alcohol may cause heart diseases, liver malfunction, cancer, alcoholism and obesity, as well.

HDL and LDL - Good and Bad Cholesterol:
HDL and LDL are the two types of the cholesterol that affect your heart. The high level of LDL and low levels of HDL can cause plaque buildup in the arteries.

High Blood pressure and High cholesterol:

Overweight  people are more likely to have high cholesterol and high blood pressure  diseases. Both diseases are the precursors to heart disease

•Your left lung is smaller than your right lung. It makes room for your heart.

•Dark chocolates can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases  by one-third.

• Smoking makes the risk of a heart attack 200% to 400% more than that of nonsmokers.

•‘Angiogram’  test  is used to detect heart disease.
