The new Kia Carens Clavis EV has just been launched in India, costing between ₹17.99 lakh and ₹24.49 lakh (before road taxes). This car is Kia's first electric vehicle that is widely available in India, and it's made here, which helps keep the price down. The Carens Clavis EV is a cheap option for a car with three rows of seats, and it uses the specially designed E-GMP platform. It looks like the regular Carens Clavis with a gas engine, but it has an electric motor and two different battery options. You can order one starting on July 22, and here’s all the important stuff about the new Kia Carens Clavis EV.

The way the new Carens Clavis EV looks is very close to the gas version. The front has a new sealed grille that cleverly covers the charging port with a door. The LED lights that run during the day go all the way across the front, and it has new 17-inch alloy wheels that are shaped to be aerodynamic. The ice-cube style LED headlights and starmap-themed LED taillights are the same as on the gas model. The size is the same, but the distance between the car and the ground is a bit more, at 200 mm, compared to the regular one. It still has three rows of seats, and the dashboard design is the same. This electric vehicle that can carry many people has a big 26.6-inch screen that has two displays for the digital gauges and the entertainment system. The center area has been changed, with the gear selector moved to the steering wheel, which is now an electronic shift system.

This car has more than 90 online features such as Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, wireless phone charging, a large sunroof with two panels, mood lighting, an easy one-touch folding second-row seat, seats that cool in the front, a driver’s seat that you can adjust, mood lighting, and an air purifier. The Carens Clavis EV also has a Boss mode, so you can move the front passenger seat from the second row, and a Bose sound system. Also, the car has a 25-litre storage space in the front and the normal storage behind the third row. The Carens Clavis EV is powered by a single motor that comes in two power levels. The base model makes 133 bhp, and the upgraded model makes 169 bhp. The maximum twisting force stays the same at 255 Nm. Kia says that the electric vehicle has a very efficient motor, so there is no loss in acceleration, even when it has seven people in it. The Carens Clavis EV can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds with the 51.4 kWh battery.

Two battery systems provide power to the car. The less expensive versions use a 42 kWh battery, allowing for a travel distance of 404 km (MIDC) on a complete charge. The more expensive versions come with a 51.4 kWh battery, giving a range of 490 km (MIDC) on a full charge. These battery systems are rated IP-67 for water resistance and have passed tests, including being submerged in 420 mm of water, being dropped, and enduring strong vibrations. To effectively manage heat during the hot Indian summer, the batteries use liquid cooling. Kia mentions the new Carens Clavis EV can use a 7.2 kW and 11 kW AC charger for charging at home. When using a 100 kW DC charger, charging from 10% to 80% will take about 39 minutes. It also has Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), so it can provide power to other devices and appliances. The Carens Clavis EV has "intelligent regeneration" that can be adjusted using paddle shifters. The regenerative braking system has four settings, including “i-Pedal” mode, which enables driving using just one pedal in busy traffic.

Kia says that more than 100 of its dealerships have quick charging options, and the company has installed over 11,000 charging stations as its network grows. The business provides an 8-year/160,000 km warranty on the electric MPV. The Carens Clavis EV includes Level 2 ADAS, featuring more than 20 self-driving features, such as Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assist, Front Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Blind View Monitor in the dashboard, and Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, to better notice dangers close by. Other features are Safe Exit Warning, Driver Attention Warning, an electric parking brake, six airbags, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Stability Control, Dynamic Braking Control, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors, disc brakes on all wheels, and a fake engine sound for pedestrian safety at slower speeds. The Carens Clavis EV also comes with rollover sensors that deploy airbags if the car flips over.

The Carens Clavis EV comes in four versions: HTK Plus, HTX, ER HTX, and ER HTX Plus. It is available in six colors: Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, and Ivory Silver Matte. This electric MPV has no similar cars in its class but will compete with various mid-size and small electric SUVs like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, and Tata Harrier EV.
