John Bolton, who previously served as the National Security Advisor in the United States, criticized his old superior, Donald Trump, suggesting that Trump often claims credit for various achievements. This commentary from Bolton arose in the context of Trump’s assertion that he played a role in facilitating peace between India and Pakistan after the recent military operation known as Operation Sindoor. Bolton remarked, “It’s nothing personal towards India. This is just typical of Donald Trump, who tends to take credit for everything." He continued to explain, "Yes, there was a conversation involving Prime Minister Modi, with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also participating in the call. It’s likely that other nations are reaching out to see how they can contribute. This behavior is characteristic of Trump, as he often rushes in to claim recognition before anyone else has the chance. While it might annoy many, this is merely Trump's style and has no ill intent toward India."

The ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan followed India's 'Operation Sindoor,' which was a response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that resulted in 26 civilian fatalities. In this operation, India targeted nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), leading to significant conflict. In retaliation, Pakistan tried to launch attacks on Indian territories along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) using drones and artillery fire. Just moments before India was set to make an official statement regarding the cessation of hostilities, President Trump declared on his social media platform that both nations had consented to a "full and immediate ceasefire." He stated, “After a lengthy night of negotiations facilitated by the United States, I am thrilled to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both nations for using common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Nevertheless, India dismissed Trump’s assertions, reaffirming its position that any issues concerning the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir should be resolved directly between India and Pakistan.
