New law to cut HIV case numbers in Florida

A law was signed by the governor to cut the number of HIV cases in one of the places of Florida, where the disease is spreading the most. The move is prompted by disturbing spike in HIV rates in Florida.

The new case numbers were decreased by Florida health department to 4,163 from 6,147, citing the way the reporting cases were handled by the Centers for Disease Control and migrating duplicative cases of HIV to States, where patients currently reside.

Tonie Dozier, a resident of Tallahassee and a HIV positive patient, had assigned her life to the prevention. She is currently working with the Minority Alliance for Advocating Community Awareness.

Dozier said, "There’s a lot of work to be done because there are people out there that might have been positive for a while and never been tested."

Miami Sen. Oscar Braynon said, "For me, the people of my district, Miami-Dade, as we get labeled for having one of the highest HIV/AIDS rates in the country, I have to vote no."

Presently, Florida Health Department is under critical observation for changing few case numbers. In 2014, due to more than 6,000 cases, Florida was doubted to be the no.1 in the US, for new HIV infections. Since the department rolled that numbers back , Florida is now placed third for the same.
